VOTIVE CANDLES

Picture

This can be done any time of year- just change the prayer/s that are attached to the candle.  The advantage of this craft is that the time utilized can vary depending on the amount of preparation you have done, and thus the age range for this craft is great.  Older children can do all of it, from selecting the prayer on the computer and downloading and printing, through to the end, to a very small child only pasting the prayer on the candle!

Materials:

large votive candle in glass holder

clear glue that is brushed on
1" brushes
prayers printed on paper that is not too thick, but sturdy (Should measure about 1 1/2" -2" X 5"  (make sure when cut they fit on the flat surface of the glass totally)

small jewels, sequins or trims if desired
 Directions:
  • Select and print off desired prayers.  For smaller children, teachers should do this themselves.
  • Trim around prayer so that there is little margin.
  • Measure.
  • Apply glue with brush to an area slightly larger than this measurement. (Both sides of candle)
  • Smooth on and let dry.
  • Place a glue line (from 1/4- 1/2" thick) around the prayers
  • Apply assorted trims, beads and or sequins
