The Mustard Seed is a feature of the Department of Christian Education.  The task of the website is to provide suggestions and advice for small church schools; however, Church School Directors of small, medium and large schools can benefit.  "If you have the faith of a mustard seed....you can move mountains!"   Matthew 17:20

The Mustard Seed
is also linked to a Facebook group, called Orthodox Small Church Schools, where people can ask questions, discuss problems or ideas, and share experiences with others who work with small church schools:  http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpages%2FOrthodox-Christian-Small-Church-Schools%2F154263261797&h=02195f3ee2dd5af7599ede414edb680a

Church school is again almost over for the year.  Time to go over what went well, and what did not, and for administrators to do their planning for next year.  Also, it's time to send in your ideas and photos to The Mustard Seed!  We really want to see what you have done out there, and your ideas are invaluable to everyone else involved in the education of our children.

Think also about what events you can plan for your small church school to bridge the gap between Spring and Fall, over that large chasm of Summer!  Believe me, most families are not out of town over the summer- they are right here, so you can plan events!  Think in terms of picnics, vacation church schools, field trips- maybe to visit another parish of another jurisdiction, or a "fun day."  Not only do these events provide continuity for your present students, but it is a great way for your children to invite their friends to see Orthodoxy in a fun, non-threatening way.  It is also a way to involve adults in the parish with the church school even for just one occasion.  Most of our children only know the adults who teach them.  It is great for them to learn to view others as their friends as well!
